Guess the Punctuation
Pair up the students, and give them each a set of puppets.
Player 1 decides on a punctuation mark and says a sentence that
would include their mark. Player 2 guesses the correct punctuation
mark by holding up a finger puppet. Players switch roles.
Magnetic Editing
Print out the puppets, and attach magnets to the backs of them.
Write a sentence on the board that is missing punctuation. The
students can add the punctuation magnets to edit the sentence.
Small Group Game Show
Print out several copies of the puppets and attach them to
craft sticks. Keep these in a can at your small group table. When
you are practicing editing and conventions, give each student in
your small group a set of puppets. Display a sentence that is
missing punctuation. Students hold up the puppet(s) that are
needed to make the sentence correct.
Oversized Editing
Using sentence strips, write out sentences that are missing
punctuation. Put the sentence strips and puppets into a writing
center. Students must edit the sentences using the
punctuation puppets.
