Norm-Referenced Test Assignment Instructions Candidates will administer a norm-referenced test to a volunteer. If you are unable to administer a test, observe a test being administered (with permission). Use this recording as the ‘observed test’ Please address each of the following questions in your assignment (divide up your paper into subheadings): See sample assignments for examples of paper. 1. Indicate if you administered this norm-referenced test yourself to a volunteer or observed the test being given by a staff member; This test was observed from the video provided by the course instructor, as I was not able to administer nor observe a live test due to confidentiality issues at the school in which I work. 2. Describe the testing space and what preparation was involved in preparing the test and test subject. 3. Describe the testing situation fully. Please give the full name of the test and test abbreviation (if available), the purpose of the test, how long it takes to administer the test, the age range for the test, different types of subtests present within the test, and any other relevant test information. The Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition (PLS-5) is a comprehensive developmental language assessment tool. Here is some key information about the PLS-5: o Full Name & Test Abbreviation: Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition (PLS-5) o Purpose: To provide a comprehensive assessment of developmental language skills spanning from pre-verbal, interaction-based skills to emerging language and early literacy. o Administration Time: The test typically takes 45-60 minutes to administer. o Age Range: The PLS-5 is suitable for children from birth through 7 years 11 months old. o Types of Subtests: It includes subtests for total language, auditory comprehension, expressive communication, standard scores, growth scores, percentile ranks, and language age equivalents. o Other Relevant Information: The assessment involves pointing or verbal responses to pictures and objects, and it offers manual scoring options. The PLS-5 provides valuable insights into a child's language development and helps identify areas of strength and areas that may require support in various aspects of language skills. 4. Did the test appear to contain any bias? Describe the type/nature of questions asked; do this even if you felt no bias was present. Please do not copy any questions directly from the test itself, instead describe what the test is attempting to measure. 5. How will the testing data be used? Is this for an initial IEP meeting, a reevaluation (triennial IEP) meeting? If the test was only being given for the purpose of this assignment, how could you use the results? The results of the Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition (PLS-5) assessment provide valuable information to guide intervention plans for children with language delays. Speech-language pathologists and other professionals can use the assessment results to: o Identify specific areas of strength and weakness in the child's language development. o Tailor individualized intervention plans to target the areas that require support. o Monitor progress over time by reevaluating the child's language skills to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. o Communicate with parents, caregivers, and other professionals involved in the child's care to ensure a collaborative approach to support the child's language development. By analyzing the detailed results of the PLS-5 assessment, professionals can provide targeted and effective interventions to help children improve their language skills and reach their full potential. 6. Describe the testing results. What did the results indicate? Remember to refer to any results that may include a percentile rank, descriptive category, age rank, and/or any other relevant result summary. Assignment Criteria: Answer ALL 5 parts (some have already been completed) - THEN the assignment needs to be written in a narrative format. Essentially, the assignment will be written up in a manner that may be presented/seen in say a popular magazine and/or online publication. The assignment needs to be broken up into subheadings (as mentioned above) and no less than 4-6 pages total. The assignment should be typed, double-spaced, default margins, Times New Roman, font size 12, and submitted in the Microsoft Word or PDF format.

Norm-reference Testing

The Preschool Language Scales Fifth Edition (PLS-5) is a language developmentally

appropriate assessment that is designed to measure language and speech in children of ages

between birth and almost eight years. This test is very useful in determining children with

language delay and assist in determining the kind of intervention required. The following section

informs the reader about the testing phase, more specifically the environment in which the test

was performed, what kind of test was conducted and the result that was achieved. When it comes

to the use of the PLS-5, it is evident that it can provide educators, speech-language pathologists,

and other personnel useful information when working with children in order to make decisions

and establish intervention plans.

Administration of the Norm-Referenced Test
