, Introduction
Maryland Technology Consulting, Inc. (MTC), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, was
founded in May 2008 as an Informational Technology Consulting firm that looks to provide its clients
with successful Information Technology consulting. MTC has been working to gain two new contracts
soon and is considering offering proposals on several other large contracts. With expansion imminent,
MTC now faces a problem with increasing its staff to continue providing expert and timely service to its
clientele. The following is an analysis of MTC’s requirement for an IT solution for a new applicant hiring
tracking system, a set of system requirements, a proposed solution, and an implementation plan that
can be used to improve its hiring process.
I. Strategic Use of Technology
A. Business Strategy – MTC’s business strategy is to provide extraordinary consulting
services and recommendations to its customers by employing highly skilled consultants,
staying abreast of new business concepts and technology, and developing new ideas
and best practices. With the acceptance of two significant new contracts, Human
Resources (HR) wants to bring 75 new team members over 60 days. The Director of HR
has expressed that their current process is manual and methodical, taking an exuberant
amount of time for the HR team to process applicants through the hiring process. A
new hiring system would help HR expedite applications and support filtering out
unqualified candidates, combining and grouping candidates to specific jobs, and
organizing all information on potential new hires.
B. Competitive Advantage – Being a mid-size consultation company, MTC competes in
a highly competitive market that includes powerhouses such as Hewlett-Packard,
Booz Allen Hamilton, and Science Applications International Corporation firms, as
well as numerous other companies similar in size to themselves, each with various
