Beliefs in healthcare
The Hispanic population have limited belief in science, medicine, and healthcare.
They are heavily reliant on the folk and traditional medicine (Fowler et al., 2022).
According to Fowler et al. (2022), eighty percent of the Hispanic population uses
traditional or cultural remedies to treat illnesses.
The Latino community relies on traditional guidance for treatment, which is not sustainable for
current and dynamic diseases. Understanding these factors allows for effective treatment.
Therefore, healthcare providers should screen for such aspects when treating patients to integrate
the necessary aspects and educate the patients on the dangers of overreliance.
Religion
Various factors, including religion and education, among other aspects of the family, play
a crucial role in healthcare decision-making.
Hispanic families have strong religious backgrounds and beliefs, which influence their
decision-making and health beliefs.
A strong connection between religion and healthcare has been established in the Latino
community.
The Latino community strongly believes in the spiritual connection with illnesses. Such
occurrences are strongly associated with higher beings, who are consulted in times of
healthcare needs. Due to the parents’ limited education, healthcare decisions are closely tied
to cultural and traditional beliefs and values, including those associated with religion (Gast et
al., 2017).
