Interviewing a Social Worker Reflection Paper
Insights into a typical workday of a social worker
The social worker (Jammie) provides insightful information about a typical workday
of a social worker from experience working with veterans. She explains that on a typical day
at work, she works with CBOCs (Community-Based Outpatient Clinics) that carries 4-5
panels visited four-five doctors. A social worker must attend to all veterans served by the
doctors (22:40). On a typical day, a social worker will receive consults referred by a doctor, a
nurse or a walk-in veteran. Others may seek service via phone calls. A typical service
involves attending to a client’s needs, conducting assessment or triage, etc. On a day, Jamila
says a social worker may receive about 5 walk-in clients (Jammie, Personal Communication,
June 13, 2024).
How a social worker deals with clients in their individual environments

worker finds to be case-managed after assessment fail to turn up for sessions again.

their needs are optimally met. For some, needs may be met by providing required resources.
Every client has different needs, which the social worker must attend to with patience
(Jammie, Personal Communication, June 13, 2024).
How social worker/agency committed to social/economic justice
According to Jamila, social work plays the advocacy role to ensure veterans do not
get stuck in the justice system over issues. She reports that her agency has programs (e.g. the
veteran justice outreach teams) and legal advocates that deal with these issues in special
