Normal newborn BP – systolic – 65-95, diastolic – 35-60
Normal glucose range in newborns – 40-60, should be 50-90 mg/dL after
Kernicterus – neurological brain damage that can happen if the bilirubin levels get to be too high
We want the baby to poop in order to decrease bilirubin levels – this is why we care so much about
those dirty diapers
Babies with high bilirubin levels (20s and above) will need to have phototherapy and supplementation
If a baby has an order for phototherapy – first check if there’s an order, identify the patient, cover
newborn’s eyes, and check temperature
