The 19th century was a turning point in the history of the Western world.
During this time, societies experienced dramatic political, social, and
economic changes that set the stage for the modern age. Two of the most
powerful forces of this period were nationalism and industrialisation.
Nationalism reshaped how people understood their identity and loyalty, while
industrialisation transformed the way people worked, lived, and related to
one another. Both forces influenced each other in significant ways, and their
impact was felt across Europe and the wider Western world.
Nationalism can be understood as a movement that emphasised unity and
loyalty to a shared national identity. It encouraged people to see themselves
as part of a larger community bound by language, culture, history, or political
destiny. Industrialisation, on the other hand, was an economic and social
process through which societies shifted from traditional agricultural
