The goal of this test bank manual is to fulfill users’ expectations for assessment questions and, at
the same time, follow the tenets of what assessment should be as described in the text. Two
principles of assessment guide the information presented: Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational
Objectives, and the use of multiple sources for assessment of student learning. This test bank
includes multiple choice test items and short essay questions to provide more in depth
application of chapter contents. We hope that instructors will model the use of performance
assessments, checklists, rubrics, portfolios, etc. in their repertoire of assessments for the course.
Please note that the assessments in the handbook are merely suggestions. The best assessments
are designed by instructors of individual classes.
