Due 25 July 2025
QUESTION 1 (30 Marks)
1.1 Using the Following Techniques, Create an Activity and Lesson Purpose for
Ms. Direko to Assess Learners (15 Marks)
1.1.1 Pictures (5 Marks)
Teacher Activity (3 Marks): Ms. Direko displays a set of colorful picture cards depicting
everyday objects and scenarios (e.g., a kitchen, a playground, a family). She divides
learners into small groups and gives each group three cards. Learners are tasked with
naming the objects or actions in the pictures (e.g., “spoon,” “playing”) and using them in
a simple English sentence (e.g., “I see a spoon.”). Ms. Direko circulates, prompting
learners with questions like, “What is this?” or “Can you say a sentence?” to encourage
vocabulary use.
Purpose of Assessment (2 Marks): To assess learners’ ability to recognize and name
vocabulary items depicted in pictures and to evaluate their capacity to construct simple
English sentences using these words in context.
1.1.2 Interactive Storytelling (5 Marks)
Teacher Activity (3 Marks): Ms. Direko tells a short, interactive story about a typical
day in a child’s life (e.g., “Thabo goes to the market”). She pauses at key points to ask
learners to predict what happens next or to describe characters’ actions using
vocabulary from the story (e.g., “What does Thabo buy?”). Learners respond orally, and
Ms. Direko encourages them to act out parts of the story (e.g., pretending to carry a
basket). She records their responses to track participation and accuracy.
Purpose of Assessment (2 Marks): To assess learners’ listening comprehension of the
story and their ability to use relevant vocabulary and phrases to describe actions or
predict outcomes in an interactive narrative context.
