Stage 1 HTN
140--99
Stage 1 HTN certification criteria
- Max cert for 1 year - if no hx HTN + no HTN meds (First time)
- OR can do one-time 3 mo if...
- the driver has hx of HTN and is on meds
- OR has 1 year cert for untreated HTN and not on meds
- RECERT:
- BP less/equal < 140/90 = recert for 1 year
- BP over > 140/90 = one-time 3 mo
Stage 1 HTN disqualifying criteria
- Has 3 mo cert but BP still > 140/90
- Hx of S3 HTN and BP still > 140/90
- BP > 180/110 (S3)
Stage 2 HTN
160--109
**Absolute indication to start BP med!**
Stage 2 HTN certification criteria
(Essentially, give them a one-time 3 mo cert to give them time to seek tx and reduce their BP to
below 140/90)
