Fixed Deficit of an Extremity certification and disqualifying criteria
***Driver may be allowed to drive if they meet the qualification requirements for a skills
performance evaluation (SPE) cert***
CERT = max 2 years
- fixed deficit (finger, hand, arm, leg, foot) but otherwise medically qualified
- HAS A VALID SPE
- document showing medical compliance
- get med eval summary from a physiatrist or ortho
DQ =
- torso or neck impairment
- progressive disease (ex. MS)
- not compliant with meds/tx
What are some physical abilities the driver must have?
- be able to climb into and out of the truck
- manipulate the wheel
- shift gears
- maintain pedal pressure
- braking
- loading/unloading the cargo
- monitoring traffic/turn neck fully
Grip strength tests
These are NOT required. Can be ordered by the med examiner, PCP, physiatrist, or ortho
specialist
