Involution - correct answer - Uterus contraction after placenta is out

- Return of the uterus to a non-pregnant state after birth



- End of third stage, fundus is midline & 2 cm BELOW the umbilicus, weight approximately 1000 gm



- Within 12 hours the fundus is ABOVE 1 cm above the umbilicus



- The Pitocin given helps the uterus contract (prevent hemorrhage) When there is a decrease of the
Pitocin it will relax and rise back up



- In 24 hours, uterus size of 20 week gestation - Returns to umbilical level

1. Retained placenta fragments
