1. List and discuss the different factors that can influence your adoption of mobile telephone
for academic and social activities/ endeavours. In your response, you may add more factors
to the ones in the articles based on your personal experience(s) in the use of mobile
telecommunications services.

A mobile phone is a necessity hence the rapid growth in the advancement of making them
adaptable to everyday life and instances. There are options of purchase when it comes to
mobile phones, namely, prepaid and contract.
The great thing about prepaid purchase according to Dannenfeldt [sa], is the combination of
freedom and control to buy any amount of data or airtime without any restrictions nor fixed
time. Furthermore, in this purchase, you are not locked into a multi-year plan with a set of
minutes and additional charges.
Contracts on the other hand are expensive because they include unlimited data; free
minutes and other extras and one might not get to utilize all the added extras but still pay
for them every month. Meyer (2020) stated that consumers will now enjoy reduced data of
which this came after South Africans complained of high priced data, the competition
commission said Vodacom and MTN must immediately reduce prices ranging from 30% to
50%.


The cost of service does vary per network/service provider of which they opt to give best
prices to consumers. In remote areas and outland, data tends to be very much affordable
compared to inland data. In urban areas, data is a bit costly and also considering the kind of
device you are using as well as the network provider and the usage of applications used like
social media etc.
