POBRE ANA SUMMARY UPDATED FOR 2025 – GUARANTEED PASS
Ch 1 summary

Ana is a 15 year old girl from California. She has a lot of problems: her Mom yells, her Dad won't
give her money because they're poor, her brother, Don, never helps, and her sister, Patty, steals
her clothes. Ana has two friends: Elsa and Sara who are both rich.

Ch 2 summary

Ana can't find her book, Mom yells at her and Don doesn't help. Ana finds it on her bed. At
school, Ana is jealous of Sara's new Hollister shirt. Her Spanish teacher, Sra. Borda, tells of
opportunity to live with a family in Mexico at no cost. Ana wants to go. Ana tells her Dad, dad
says too expensive, Ana says it's free, Dad says yes.

Ch 3 summary

Sra. Borda tells Ana that Mexico is very different and families are poor. Ana's family, Elsa, and
Sara accompany her to the airport to say goodbye. Ana flies to Guadalajara then Tepic, Nayarit
(a state in Mexico). The Sánchez family is not at the airport. Ana is scared. Ana takes a taxi to
her new house. The family is sorry they weren't at the airport. Ana talks with Juana and Susana.
She likes her new family. She is surprised by some of the differences between the Sánchez
family's house and the houses in California.

Ch 4 summary

Ana, Juana, and Susana go to the gym, park, pool (where people swim with all their clothes
on!), and a store called "Gigante". Tortillas are being sold in front of Gigante. The girls go to the
bank and Ana exchanges dollars for pesos. She then buys a taco from a taco cart. She compares
it to tacos from Taco Bell. The girls go back to the house, and Mom yells because the radio is too
loud. Ana is surprised that other Moms yell, too.

Ch 5 summary

Ana goes to the gym and meets Patricia. They go to Patricia's house and talk. Patricia goes to a
private school with uniforms. Ana and Patricia become good friends.

Ch 6 summary

Patricia and Ana go to a dance. Ana meets a boy named Ricardo and he teaches her how to
dance the cumbia in 30 mins. Ana and Ricardo talk. SHe tells him about her problems. Ricardo
says there are no perfect families. Ana, Patricia, and Ricardo go to Ricardo's house and talk.
