A. Personal Values
Explain your top FOUR personal core values (e.g., accountability, honesty, integrity,
respect, loyalty, fairness, etc.) with detail on “why” they are personally meaningful
to you. (Unit 2: Module 2).
Tip: Be sure to select four distinct values. For example, honesty and
truthfulness might be too similar. And be sure to explain why these
four values are personally meaningful to you.
Enter your responses in the list below.
1. The first personal core value that is important to me is respect. Respect is about
treating others with dignity, even if they are different from me or disagree with
me. This matters to me because I show respect in every interaction I have. I
model respect to my staff at work, my wife and children, friends, and family. I
know what disrespected feels like, and I do not want others to feel that. Everyone
deserves to be treated with dignity.
2. Empathy is essential because it helps me understand and feel what someone
else is going through, even if I have not experienced it myself. Empathy allows
me daily while working in my current job. I work at a gym, and empathy helps me
connect with our members who may be intimidated, struggling, or even
discouraged. I know firsthand what it feels like to feel those feelings in a gym.
3. Compassion is a desire to help someone once you’ve recognized the difficulty
they are experiencing. Compassion is something that you act upon; you show
, others compassion. Compassion is a value that I believe makes me a better
person. I understand the struggles that others may be going through, and
compassion allows me to step up and be there for them.
4. Balance is a newer value that has become important to me. It is about
maintaining a healthy mix of work, family, and personal growth. I juggle work,
family, school, fitness, and hobbies daily. When one of these demands more
from me than others, the rest tend to become less critical, and that is not what I
want in my life. Balance is needed to prevent burnout, be available for family and
friends, and still be able to work on my well-being.
