Nurse Review
(SBIRT) Screening, Brief intervention and referral services - ANS-SBIRT is an evidence-based
model of care for addressing and intervening when patients enter a healthcare system.
Providers are recommended to screen, intervene, and refer patients to a higher level or expert
level of care and treatment in the case of uncovering substance use disorders, in particular.
\An important finding drawn from the IOM 1999 "To err is human" report revealed:
Upwards of 98,000 patients die annually while in hospitals;
Nurses are seen as the most trusted healthcare providers;
Healthcare settings must set independent standards according to the community population
demographics;
Root cause analyses should be implemented whenever there is a near miss. - ANS-Upwards of
98,000 patients die annually while in hospitals. This and subsequent findings outline the charge
for quality assurance changes that are driving issues of safety i the workplace, enhanced
education among healthcare providers of all levels, and close examination of err occurrences
and near misses.
\Astrocytes - ANS-Provide nutrients transportation to glial cells
\Behavior Modification - ANS-operant and classical conditioning concepts to shape more
adaptive, less maladaptive behaviors
\Benzodiazepines - ANS-medications that work to induce relaxation and are used in alcohol
withdrawal.
\Clinical ability to view blood flow throughout the brain is achieved by:
Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation;
Functional MRI;
EEG;
Elicitation of cranial nerve X reflex - ANS-FUNCTIONAL MRI provides a much enhanced
visualization of the brain's circulation networks.
TCMS uses magnets to polarize and depolarize inonic particulates in the brain to treat
depression.
EEG provides graphic images of brain wave motility.
Eliciting cranial nerveX identifies functional indices of the heart and digestive systems.
\Clinical decision-making at the point of care is best demonstrated in which nursing acitivity?
Bedside reporting;
Enlisting assent and labeling personal items in a space that is separated from the medication
room;
Obtaining report from the emergency department for a new transfer - ANS-Bedside reporting
strategies provide nursing professionals as opportunity to determine the patient's status and
needs level, at the point of care when being transferred from one nursing poressional to
another. At this point, all parties can come to a collective understanding of recent past condition
and be able to collectively identify future care needs.
