Test//Biology//Plis UPDATED ACTUAL Exam Questions and CORRECT Answers Explain each of Mendel's law. How is each law used in Punnett Squares? - CORRECT ANSWER - - Law of Independent Assortment: Gene pairs sort randomly and independently of each other and don't influence one another during the formation of gametes - Segregation: States that the alleles for a trait separate when gametes are formed. The allele pairs are then randomly united at fertilization - Unit Characteristics: There are units in a cell that are responsible for traits, and these units come in pairs (otherwise known as alleles)

Mendel, Punnett Square, Meiosis
Test//Biology//Plis UPDATED ACTUAL
Exam Questions and CORRECT Answers
Explain each of Mendel's law. How is each law used in Punnett Squares? - CORRECT
ANSWER - - Law of Independent Assortment: Gene pairs sort randomly and
independently of each other and don't influence one another during the formation of gametes
- Segregation: States that the alleles for a trait separate when gametes are formed. The allele pairs
are then randomly united at fertilization
- Unit Characteristics: There are units in a cell that are responsible for traits, and these units
come in pairs (otherwise known as alleles)

Compare and contrast mitosis and meiosis. - CORRECT ANSWER - Mitosis: produces 2
genetically identical daughter cells, a form of asexual reproduction, undergoes one cell division.
Meiosis: produces 4 haploid daughter cells each containing 1/2 the number of chromosomes as
the parent cell, cells undergo two rounds of cell division, 1st stage in sexual reproduction.
Both are types of cellular division that result in daughter cells. Both copy DNA only once and go
through similar stages.

How are human egg cells similar to human sperm cells? - CORRECT ANSWER - Both are
haploid cells

How many chromosomes does an offspring have after meiosis (as compared to a parent)? -
CORRECT ANSWER - 1/2 the number.
Offspring that result from meiosis and fertilization each have gene combinations different from
those of either parent

What is the F1 and F2 Generation? - CORRECT ANSWER - F1 generation is the offspring
of the P generation (true-breeding) and the F2 generation is a result of the crossing of two F1
hybrids
