Definition: Inflammation of the exocrine pancreas is known as pancreatitis.
Types:
1- Acute pancreatitis
2- Chronic pancreatitis
Acute pancreatitis: It is acute inflammation and reversible damage of the
exocrine pancreas which causes focal or diffuse oedema, necrosis and
hemorrhage. If hemorrhage is present then it is known as hemorrhagic
pancreatitis.
