, Important of Ethics in Professional Setting
APA guidelines in the Code of Ethics are working in psychology so that they are better
equipped with the knowledge as to when they encounter some moral or ethical dilemma. Ethics
are an important concern in psychology with dealing with research and therapy. Working side by
side with a patient and conducting psychological research can help with moral issues that must
be addressed (Cherry, 2020). In some situations, conflicts may arise, in the ethical dilemma this
is an issue. We will discuss the explanation of ethical dilemma and why it is a potential dilemma.
I feel that rational and ethical dilemmas are important for every method we use for a positive
outcome.

The main ethical dilemma in this scenario is that the conflict of interest occurs when James, the
psychologist considers accepting the patient’s offer of the barter system. Ethical dilemmas are
the obligations of conflict including trust versus loyalty, individual versus community, short term

the patient. The therapeutic session is very critical because it is to maintain a professional
relationship to help ensure the well-being of the trust between the psychologist and the patient.
Having financial implications are that the patient is part of the barter system, and it implies that
the patient cannot afford to pay for their therapy. This can cause conflict in the patient’s financial
trust. Psychologists have a responsibility to prioritize the patient’s accountability and not to take
advantage of them. It can also turn into a personal interest conflict. James shares with the
psychologist of interest in antiques and if familiar with a specific store. The personal interest he
