Hull Identification Number - ANS12 digit number assigned by manufacturer
Vessel - ANSEvery motorboat, motorized watercraft and any watercraft more than 12 ft in length
powered by sail alone or combination
Watercraft - ANSAny boat or craft, including a vessel, used or capable of being used as a
means of transport on waters
Gunwale - ANSUpper edge of vessel's side (generally pronounced "gunnel")
Overboard - ANSOver the side or out of the vessel
Improper Speed or Distance - ANSNot maintaining a proper speed or distance while operating a
motorboat or PWC
Exceeding Night Speed Limit - ANSOperating a motorboat or PWC in excess of 30 miles per
hour any time from 30minutes after sunset until 1 hour before sunrise
"idle speed" or "slow, no wake speed" - ANSThe slowest speed at which it is possible to
maintain steering
Overloading - ANSLoading the vessel beyond the recommended capacity shown on the
capacity plate installed by the vessel manufacturer
Violating the Skier-Down Flag Requirement - ANSFailure to properly display the skier- down flag
or failure to keep a proper distance from a displayed skier-down flag
Moor - ANSTo keep a vessel in place by setting anchor or tying the vessel to a fixed object or
buoy
Navigable Waterway - ANSAny navigable river, lake, or other body of water
Non-native species - ANSThey upset the balance of the ecosystem, harm the environment and
are transported by vessels
