CASE 1:
Baby Girl Domingo was brought by her mother to the OPD for her first well baby check up. She was delivered 10 days ago via NSD in a
birthing center. Her mother, a plain housewife, is a G1P1 while her father is a 24 y/o maintenance personnel in one of the malls in Tondo,
Manila where the family also resides .
Baby is assessed as a term at birth, with a birthweight of 6.8 lbs and with a birth length of 21 inches. Her delivery was uneventful and
today is her first well baby check up. The nurse took the vital signs which were all normal, took her weight which was noted to be 6.5 lbs,
length is 21 inches.
As the baby was undressed the following was noticed by the 2 nurses:
1. Baby skin is still a little bit yellow, dry, and peeling in some parts.
2. There was whitish powder residue on her groin, under the buttocks, on her labial folds, and lower abdomen.
3. There was a white cloth tied around the abdomen covering her umbilical cord.
4. When the cloth was removed, there was the presence of the same powdery residue on it and the cord still looks fresh at the base.
5. Baby’s skin on his buttocks started to look reddish.
