Introduction
For this task I am required to evaluate why Bulgaria has become a
developing destination. There are many factors that attract tourist to
Bulgaria. For instance, Bulgaria has a historical and cultural heritage as
well as spectacular natural landscapes. The country consists of unspoilt
historical cities that have mountain ski resorts as well as spectacular
beaches due to the fact that the
country’s border is on the Black Sea. To
date, Bulgaria is amongst the most
visited countries in in whole of southeast
Europe. Bulgaria has undergone a
tremendous economic growth for the
last decade or so. This is mostly due to
the increase of tourism numbers in the
country. In 2008, the country received a
little over 8.9 million tourists with
Greece, Romania and Germany
accounting for 40% of the inbound
tourists. That map above should give you an insight as to where
Bulgaria is located. Also, as you can see from the map, Bulgaria is next
to some of the world’s most popular countries such as Turkey, Greece,
Germany and Russia. Those countries that I have mention are one of
Bulgaria’s prime source as to why Bulgaria has become a popular
holiday destination. People from countries like Russia tend to visit
Bulgaria because of its accessibility. Meaning, flights are cheap due to
it being not far, they can either catch a flight or train. Also, for
international tourists, those that are planning to take a trip to a popular
country (that’s near Bulgaria) such as Greece, because Bulgaria is in
close proximity to that country, they are likely to visit there after they
are done in Greece. It’s described by the world tourism organisation as
one of the most appealing “new faces” in the tourism industry. Bulgaria
benefited tremendously from the international exposure as a hot
holiday destination, which resulted in their economically growth. It’s
mostly visited between late June to august as in the summer months
the city receives over 50% of their annual tourist’s numbers. Bulgaria’s
peak time is in the months April and October. This is due to the coastal
area as that’s when the ocean becomes unpredictable.
