How do you manage your privacy and self-disclosures online? I have social media, but I rarely post anything about myself. I have a Twitter, but I just get on there to read other people’s tweets and laugh at funny videos. I have a Facebook, but I have not posted on there since 2015. When posting, I always try to be careful about what I share or post, because you never know who is lurking on your page. With Snapchat, I tend to post when I am at a restaurant and tag that restaurant, but Instagram, I will post the location once I leave. Snapchat, I only have my close friends on their, but Instagram, anybody can see my posts/ follow me. Social media has upgraded their privacy settings, so if you do not want certain people to see your posts, they won’t. 2. Do you think it is ethical for school officials or potential employers to make admissions or hiring decisions based on what they can learn about you online? Why or why not? I do not think it is ethical for school officials or potential employers to make admissions or hiring decisions based on what they can learn about you online. I think that everybody has a life outside of school and work and if the individual carries themselves in a professional manner while they are at school or work, I think that’s all that matters. I do understand why school officials or potential employers tend to look for this information, but I think this information should be taken with a grain of salt. The school officials or potential employers want to make sure the individual will carry themselves in a professional manner, but I think the indicator should be at the interview versus their online persona.
