National Crime Information Center (NCIC) / National Law Enforcement Teletype System (NLETS) - aka The International Justice and Public Safety Network(COMPLETE)
National Crime Information Center (NCIC) -ANSWER A computerized database and network system that serves the nation's criminal justice organizations in all 50 states, US possessions/territories, and Canada. Stores a variety of criminal records and history files as well as other data critical to effective law enforcement. Operated and maintained by the US Department of Justice. National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLets) -ANSWER A networking system that makes certain state and local data from all 50 states available to legitimate users of the system, i.e. driver's license and vehicle registration info. Now known as The International Justice and Public Safety Network. Operated and controlled by the individual states. Department of Justice -ANSWER contributes to the NCIC/Nlets system integrity through automated computer edits that reject certain types of erroneous data, automated purges of records after they are on file for a prescribed time period, quality control checks, and periodic validation of records by entering agencies. Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) File -ANSWER a nine-character identifier assigned by NCIC to an agency in order to identify the agency in transactions on the NCIC System. It will reveal the entering agency's name, address, and telephone number. Wanted Person File -ANSWER contains records on individuals for whom a felony, serious misdemeanor, or federal warrant is outstanding, as well as parole and probation violators. Foreign Fugitive File -ANSWER permits the INTERPOL office in Washington DC to enter records for fugitives who are wanted in other countries for crimes that would be considered felonies if committed in the US and who are subjects of International Red or Blue notices.
