THE CARDIAC CYCLE
The cardiac cycle is defined as a sequence of alternating contraction
and relaxation of the atria and ventricles in order to pump blood
throughout the body.



ATRIAL SYSTOLE:
• Mitral valve ...open
• Aortic valve... close
• Ventricles are already filled with about 80% blood
• Atria contracts (a wave)


VENTRICULAR SYSTOLE
1- Isovolumetric ventricular contraction
• As pressure of left ventricle inc. (the mitral valve
close) the ventricles act as close chambers, but the
aortic valve is still closed. The pressure built up is
still less than 80mm of hg
• C wave is produced a result of back pressure



2- Rapid ejection phase
• As the pressure in left ventricle inc above 80mm of hg
the aortic valves open, and blood is ejected into aorta
