Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) - The level of EMS practitioner who performs the responsibilities of an EMT with the addition of limited advanced emergency medical care. Advanced Life Support (ALS) - Advanced lifesaving procedures such as intravenous therapy, drug therapy, intubation, and defibrillation. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) - Parametric statistic used to ascertain the extent to which significant group differences can be inferred to the population. Anchor Time - Set of hours when a night-shift worker can reliably expect to rest without interruption. Basic Life Support (BLS) - Basic lifesaving procedures such as artificial ventilation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Bench Research - Research done in a controlled laboratory setting using nonhuman subjects. Bias - Potential unintended or unavoidable effect on study outcomes. Burnout - When coping mechanisms no longer buffer job stressors, which can compromise personal health and well-being.
