AMSCO - QUESTION 1 A,B,C - 2021. 1. Briefly describe ONE major difference between Marshalls and Cozen's interpretation of the Indian Wars from 1865 to 1898 a. One major difference between Marshall’s and Cozen’s interpretation of the Indian Wars was that Marshall's was more thoughtful, compassionate and somewhat sympathetic towards the Native Americans at the time. Despite the fact that Marshall portrays the Natives as falling to pieces and savage, he realizes that an incomplete purpose behind the wars that emerged was a result of how the white men were ravenous and hostile as well as their need to extend west. Cozzen, then again, doesn't show any level headedness or compassion and accepts that “none of the tribes with which the army would clash were native to the lands they claimed.” This quote is from Peter Cozzens interpretation. This is just one major difference that I noticed first hand when I read and compared the two interpretations. 2. Briefly explain how ONE specific historical event or development that is not explicitly mentioned in the excerpts could be used to support Marshall’s interpretation. a. One specific historical event or historical development that can be used to support Marshall’s interpretation is toward the west Expansion and settlement of the last outskirts of the white man. During the late 19th and mid 20th centuries, the scramble for the West's newfound common assets genuinely hurt the climate and environment of the land, yet additionally almost eliminated the wild buffalo that dwelled on the Great Plains. This chronicled improvement clearly features Marshall's case about how the white man was greedy and hostile. As it states in his interpretation exactly, “avarice and aggression of the white man.”
