1. What are Mendelian laws? (connection to Darwin?)
o What are is the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium?
2. What are the limitations of the Mendelian laws?
3. How can we estimate heritability? What are heritability estimates?
o What is heritability really?
LECTURE 2:
- Continuous distribution is caused by polygenic genes
o They are quantitative inheritance
§ Such as height, pea seed size
§ They are not one or the other but they follow a normal distribution
- Discontinuous distr. Is caused by 1 gene by 2 alleles.
- You can only hold 2 alleles because we have 2 chromosomes.
- Homozygous → same alleles (aa or AA)
The principles are the same
They do not violate Mendel’s laws
,- Heterozygous → different alleles (Aa)
, Locus → location of the gene on a chromosome
