The argument will be influenced by the ideas in the assigned video for this unit. To help you provide evidence that supports your claims, you will need to find a total of five sources and no more than ten total sources. To get started, you will submit a proposal. The purpose of a proposal is to give your instructor, and sometimes your peers, an opportunity to provide feedback on your topic, argument, and research goals. Perhaps, more importantly, a paper proposal requires you to narrow down your topic and begin formulating a clear and concise argument. You can use Question 9 on last week’s assignment as a starting point. Paper proposals help students by possibly redirecting them away from a potentially unworkable topic and toward one that is answerable with the research available. The point is to avoid the problem of finding out too late that your topic is not going to work. However, to make this exercise meaningful, you will need to do some thinking, researching, and reading before you complete the assignment. You may even decide to switch topics or revise different sections of your proposal as you work on completing each prompt. In order to complete your proposal, answer the following prompts taking your time, being as thorough as possible and using complete sentences. Note that some of the prompts have more than one section to consider and answer. 1. Write the topic that you are you are exploring. 2. Explain why you are interested in researching and writing a paper about this topic. Why is it important to you or something you want to know more about? How is it related to your life or your degree program/major? This prompt should be at least a paragraph. 3. Develop a tentative thesis. Decide your position on the topic. You may need to do some preliminary research before you can create an argument about your topic. Your thesis should not just regurgitate ideas from your sources, but be informed by your interest in the topic.
