lab Questions
1. How do the intake of nutrients and expenditure of energy relate to a metabolic level?
The quantity of energy the body consumes to keep itself and homeostasis stable is known
as the metabolic rate or level. The term "metabolism" describes a number of procedures
that turn food into energy the body can use for a variety of purposes. To keep a body in its
current state, energy expenditure and nutrient intake should ideally be equal. The quantity
of nutrients consumed and subsequently used for energy determines a person's metabolic
rate. The energy required to expend is provided by nutrients and is impacted by age, sex,
physical condition, physical activity, and basal metabolic rate.
2. Do you think you take in more calories than you burn in a day? Why or why not?
Since my weight has remained largely stable over the past month, I think I presently
consume roughly the same number of calories as I expend every day. I have a decent idea of
my current weight because I weigh myself almost every morning. If I ate more calories than
I burned in a day I would notice my weight progressively build up as my body stored that
surplus energy from nutrition as fat tissue. My weight would decrease if I expended more
calories than I consumed, which is something I haven't done in at least a month.

EXPERIMENT 1: TRACKING YOUR NUTRITION
Introduction Questions
1. State the method(s) you will use to track your nutrition of the three day period required by
the experimental procedure. If you will use a website to track your nutrition, state which
site you will use. If you will build a spreadsheet or keep a written log, state what
information you will record. Your chosen method should relate logically to the data you
obtain and the analysis you conduct in the following sections.
I'll monitor my nutrition and activity using myfitnesspal.com and the related smartphone
app. This website/app lets me enter my weight, how much water and food I consume, and
how much activity I do. It then gives me summaries of different days to look over.
Additionally, the website offers a means of adding written notes about diet and activity that
do not fall under any certain organization type.
