1. Introduction
Effective management is essential for the success of any organisation, particularly within
highly competitive and regulated industries such as food manufacturing. This report analyses
the management practices of GSR Food Ltd, a medium-sized food manufacturing business
operating in Southeast London. The purpose of this report is to critically examine four key
management issues facing the organisation and to apply relevant management theories in
order to recommend realistic and effective solutions.
The report explores how leadership style, employee motivation, training and development,
and staff turnover are affecting organisational performance, productivity, employee morale,
and quality standards. Each issue is supported by established management theories, and the
report concludes with a justified strongest recommendation aimed at improving both short-
term operational efficiency and long-term organisational sustainability.
2. Overview of GSR Food Ltd
GSR Food Ltd is a medium-sized food manufacturing company specialising in the production
of chilled and frozen ready-made meals. Its products are supplied to major supermarkets and
catering organisations across the UK. The ready-meal sector is highly competitive, with strict
regulations relating to food hygiene, quality control, and health and safety. Failure to comply
with these standards could result in reputational damage, loss of contracts, or legal penalties.
As GSR Food Ltd has grown, its management structure and workforce practices have not
developed at the same pace. This has led to several operational and people-management
challenges, including low employee morale, inconsistent productivity levels, high staff
turnover, and quality issues. These challenges suggest that current management practices are
not fully effective and require improvement in order to support business growth.
3. Organisational Goals
The key organisational goals of GSR Food Ltd include:
• Improving productivity and operational efficiency
• Maintaining high food safety and quality standards
• Reducing staff turnover and absenteeism
• Increasing employee motivation and engagement
• Sustaining long-term profitability and competitiveness
In addition, the business aims to strengthen relationships with supermarket clients, as
maintaining contracts is essential for financial stability. Achieving these goals depends
heavily on effective management, strong leadership, and a motivated and skilled workforce.
