the UK
Some statistics
,Lunch and breaks
Working breaks in the UK are not always paid.
If you work 6+ hours a day, you can have a break of 20 minutes (minimum).
You must have 11 hours of rest between each working day (eg. if you finish at
5pm, you cannot start at work before 4am).
2 days-off per fortnight (2 weeks).
There is no compulsory lunch-break. Under 1/3 of UK workers have an hour
for lunch. 50% of people work through their lunch.
, Wages
After leaving university, graduates usually earn around £20 000 – £22 000
(22.666€ - 24.932€).
People on the minimum wage earn £15 600 (17.679€) a year, if they work full-
time (40 hours a week).
For men, the average salary is £30 537 (34.607€) a year.
For women, the average salary is £25 158 (28.512€) a year (partly because
women work fewer hours on average, and partly because hourly rates can be
lower).
