Annexes (Article 350)
2. Arc Flash Hazard A dangerous condition associated with the possible release of energy caused by
an electric arc
3. Arc Rating The value attributed to materials that describes their performance to exposure to
an electrical arc discharge. The arc rating is expressed in cal/cm^2 and is derived
from the determined value of the arc thermal performance value (ATPV) or energy
of breakopen threshold (E BT) (should a material system exhibit a breakopen
resoponce below the APTV value). Arc rating is reported as either APTV or E bt,
whichever is the lower value.
4. Barricade A physical obstruction such as tapes, cones, or A-frame-type wood or metal struc-
tures intended to provide a warning and to limit access.
5. Barrier A physical obstruction that is intended to prevent contact with equipment or
energized electrical conductors and circuit parts or to prevent unauthorized access
to a work area.
6. Shock bound- Limited approach boundary,
aries Restricted approach boundary,
Prohibited approach boundary (not in 2015)
7. Limited approach An approach limit at a distance from an exposed energized electrical conductor or
boundary circtuit part within which a shock hazard exists.
8. Restricted ap- An approach limit at a distance from an exposed energized electrical conductor or
proach boundary circuit part within which there is an increased likelihood of electric shock, due to
