ON HER
BLINDNESS
Adam Thorpe

, Presentation title

INTRODUCTION
The poem is about a son who is talking about his mother who suffer
with irreversible blindness, and her eventual death.

Themes of family, honesty, hope, illness- can compare it to A Minor
Role, Effects, Material

F+S- couplets, creates a lot of blank space, similar to how when
someone is blind, they are reaching out into space because they
can’t see anything.

Enjambment in unusual places, the idea of fumbling about and
feeling for things, the poet creates this sense of what it is like to be
blind because he starts many stanzas in an abrupt way, following o
mid sentence in the previous stanza.
This enjambment could be interpreted as the speaker suddenly
remembering things about his mother, a stream of consciousness
narrative voice.
Title- refers to the poem “On His Blindness” by John Milton, where
he discusses his blindness and how it links to his faith in God,
except he has more hope than the poet’s mother
Can say that the speaker and the poet are the same person
