, NATURE VERSUS NURTURE IN CLIMATE CHANGE

Introduction: Nature and Nurture in Climate Change

Two major global problems we can use to research the interaction between nature and nurture

is climate change and sustainability. “Nature” refers to genetics that defines a human’s

behavior, while “nurture” is the environmental influence. We will also examine global

challenges based on economic, political, and cultural factors (Monasterolo 2020). That is

because every day we see more consequences of climate change, such as increasingly severe

hurricanes like “Hurricane Helene”. These disasters have worsened due to human-caused

climate change, which highlights the increasing necessity of changing our climate behavior

(Milman and Watts 2024). The question we must ask ourselves is what influences human

behavior in climate problems more; traits we get by birth or external circumstances?

(Houmark, Ronda, and Rosholm 2020).

This literature review will investigate how people’s sustainable behavior is, whilst

from different perspectives, mainly policy, education, and economics. The review will show

how these factors will change the responses to climate change, and we will point out gaps in

the currently available research.
