All Rights Reserved. New to the 10th Edition This edition has been extensively edited to improve its readability. The general outline of the book remains the same, and much of the information remains unchanged; however, most of the paragraphs have been rewritten to improve the flow and make it a faster, easier read for students. Hopefully, this will make reading this book a more enjoyable experience. The following is a summary of the fundamental changes that have been made to this edition: General  Learning outcomes have been added to each chapter. Chapter 4  Rewrote Section 4 -14 Errors and Omissions. Chapter 5  Updated Section 5 -6 Building Information Modeling to Autodesk Revit® 2023.  Added Section 5 -7 Software Selection. Chapter 6  Updated Example 6 -1 so that the allocation of home office costs is now based on construction costs rather than revenues, allowing it to be used as a markup to the bid. In the previous edition, the allocation of the home office costs w as calculated as a percentage of revenues, which required iteration to determine the home office costs to allocate a project. Every time the home office costs were added, the revenues increased, decreasing the home office costs as a percentage of the bid. By using the construction costs, this percentage can be added to the construction costs without iteration. The relationship between these two is as follows: 1Percentageof revenuesMarkupPercentageof revenues  Rewrote Section 6 -4 Scheduling. Chapter 7  Updated the payroll taxes in S ection 7 -6 Labor Burden. Chapter 10  Rewrote the cross -section method in Section 10 -6 Earthwork —New Site Grades and Rough Grade. Chapter 12  Updated the standard sizes of bricks in Figure 12.11. Figures 12.6 and 12.13, Example 12 -2, and Problems 17 and 18 have been updated to reflect this change.
