Unit 13 P6, M4 + D4

P6 – identify the main differences between anaerobic and aerobic glucose degradation:

M4 – compare the sites of ATP production and consumption during aerobic and
anaerobic breakdown of glucose in cells:

D4 – evaluate the regulation of glycolysis in terms of energy requirements in cells:

In this assignment I will identify the main differences between the anaerobic and aerobic glucose
degradation. Additionally, I will compare the sites of ATP production and consumption during
aerobic and anaerobic breakdown of glucose in cells. Lastly, I will evaluate the regulation of
glycolysis in terms of energy requirements in cells.

First of all respiration is the process of releasing energy into the surrounding.

Metabolism –this is the process of where all of the chemical reactions are involved in order to
support the life of an organism.

Aerobic respiration – this is the process of respiration which requires oxygen in order for the
reaction to take place, the process tends to release a large amount of energy.

Anaerobic respiration – This is the process of the respiration without the oxygen molecules being
involved, comparing anaerobic respiration with the aerobic respiration, anaerobic respiration releases
much less energy.

Catabolism – a form of a metabolism, which is the process of breaking down of the molecules in
which the individual is going to gain energy.

Anabolism – a form of a metabolism which is involved in the synthesis by the cells of the substances
which the organism might need in order to survive.

There are the main differences between the anaerobic glucose degradation and the aerobic
glucose degradation below;

Anaerobic glucose degradation : Aerobic glucose degradation:

Done by prokaryotic (yeast cells) and eukaryotic Process is done by the eukaryotic cells
