Wundt’s work marked the beginning of psychology as a science. He introduced
the concept of introspection – the first attempt to study the mind under
controlled conditions. One of his main objectives was to try develop theories

record their thoughts, images, and sensations into 3 categories after being
presented to various stimuli. The stimuli that Wundt and his co-workers’
experiences were always presented in the same order to minimise order effect
– this is known as structuralism. This work led to Wundt producing the first
academic journal for psychological research.
