-DOY enters throne room with son and followers, wonders where king
has fled
-Henry wants to fight right there
-York makes public claim to throne
-Henry defends his hereditary position
-Henry asks York to let him rule while he lives
-He will pass the throne to York upon his death

-Nobles astonished
-Margaret who is queen accuses him of being an unnatural father for
having disinherited his son and a bad ruler for thinking that York will let
him rule
-R’s sons E and R2 and his follower Montague urge York to take the
throne immediately, rather than await henrys death
-York insists on oath
-R easily convinces oath is not binding
-Margaret’s forces arrive to challenge York
-Rutland, other son, is captured and killed on the way home by Clifford,
who wants to avenge his fathers death at York’s hand
-Y troops losing battle, and Y is captured by Margaret and Clifford
-She offers him a handerkercheif dipped in Rutland’s blood and
challenges him to wipe his tears with it
-He rails against her calling her unnatural and Clifford and Margaret stab
him to death

-Insulted to have been sent on a futile errand, W changes sides, pleding
his allegiance to H
-Louis gives Marg troops to fight with E
-In England, E and his brothers and lords discuss his marriage
-They receive news that warwick and Marg have joined forces
-G is upset by E new marriage that he leaves with Somerset to join with
W
-In prep for the coming battles, E is captured
-Seeing G on the enemies side, E gives up the throne and consents to be
imprisoned at W brother estate
-R and Hastings soon spring E from his gilded prison
-W, G anf their nobles find H in the tower and free him
-H says he wanrs to be king in name only, and he names W and G as joint
pretectors of the kingdom
-They receive word that Ed has escaped to Brittany, from where he soon
returns with reinforcements
-Returning to tge town of Y, E thinks he wantrs only to be the Duke of
York, but his followrs urge him to seek the crown
-H followers go to gather troops to battle E
-E and R capture H and send him to the Tower before they march to meet
W army
-E army meets W and E asks W if he will again swear allegiance to him
, -W refuses
-W supporters arrive in G
-R convinces G to break with W and the forces prepare to fight
-W wounded in battle and dies
-W surviving supporters, Somerset a nd Oxford, go to join Margs army
-Marg urges on her forces, and they meet E army

sacred to Hindus as the centrepiece in their idol of the god of the Moon
-3 Brahmin priests must always guard the stone
-John Herncastle, whil fighting for the BA in India in 17999, killed three
Brahmins who were then guarding the diamond and he took it back to
England with him
-The novel then shifts forward to the mid 1800s
-Gabriel Betteredge, steward to Lady Verinder, born Julia Herncastle, has
been asked by Franklin Blake, her nephew, to write a full account of the
events surrounding the theft of the Moonstone from Lady Verinder’s
house
-JH – a dishonourable man and family utcast – has left the Moonstone to
Lady Verinder’s daughter Rachel to ve given to her on her 18th birthday
-FB has been appointed to deliver the diamond
-F suspects that JH knew that hius life was in danger because of the
Moonstone and that John had willed the ill-fated diamond to Rachel as a
gesture of malice towards LV
-F suspciions are further roused when he notices Indian men following
him, both in London and at LV country estate
