How effective is the first paragraph as an opening to the passage? How
effective is the last paragraph as a conclusion to the passage?

Some possible options on how to answer:




• Comment on Language (treat like language question)

• Treat like a link question. How does it introduce the passage
topic? Or how does it refer back to the passage?


• Does it introduce/mention the central ideas of the passage? If so,
quote and explain that good inros/conclusions do this.

• Does it make the reader think? Explain how.


• Humorous tone? Light-hearted summing up?

• Shocking facts? Draw reader in? Rhetorical question?


• Does it repeat an idea? (Conclusions only)
