Unit 17- sports injury management
Bone- osteoporosis (brittle bones)/ fractures/ break/ bruise
There are 4 types of bone fractures= transverse, oblique, spiral and comminuted-severe fractures
Joints- dislocate/ arthritis/ subluxation
Muscle- pull muscle/ tear/ sprain (haematoma)/ strains/ bruise/ cramp/ acute compartment syndrome
Cartilage- arthritis/ tears and wear
Ligament (bone to bone)- ACL injury (tear)/ bruise/ strains
Tendons (muscle to bone)- tear/ sprain
Tendonitis- runners knee
Bursa (stop friction between tendon)- inflame
Skin- bruise/ cuts/ grazing/ burn/ rushes/ eczema/ abrasions/ puncture wounds/ contusions
Aetiology- the cause, set of causes, or manner of causation of a disease or condition or the mechanism of injury.
Two types of injury:
- Acute
- Overuse
Acute-
An injury that occurs from taking part in one exercise or sporting session.
It tends to occur because of high sudden force.
Symptoms occur quickly
Overuse-
These occur because of repeated participation in a particular sporting or exercise movement which places
stress on specific area of the body.
Injuries can arise if the body part has not had sufficient time to heel between training sessions.
Types of acute and overuse injuries
Acute injuries= Overuse injuries=
Broken leg Muscle injury
Osteoporosis
Cuts Arteritis
ACL tear
Hamstring tear
Collapse
