2. English as a Global Language
The English language is circulating all over the world and it is spoken by
many people, in one form or another.
There are many countries that speak English as a first language (L1)
such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
Even though English has a very large number of native speakers it is not
the most common language around the world; being beaten by Chinese
and Spanish.
If not the most common language, what is it? It is the most widely
distributed language due to the extent of speakers using it as a second
or foreign language (L2).
