Case Study One Nation Under Walmart.
Abstract Wal-Mart has become the largest retail store in the world with over 8,400 stores worldwide. Originally located in rural areas throughout the south and the Midwest, Wal-Mart has steadily moved into more urban areas in the United States. When Wal-Mart moves into an error, smaller mom and pop locations go out of business as the cannot compete with Wal-Mart’s products and pricing. In a society based on capitalism is Wal-Mart’s encroaching on smaller businesses setting the company on a path towards becoming a monopoly? Does the company’s presence impact community behavior and does Wal-Mart’s dominance in the industry positively or negatively impact society?
