P3: Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable
major life events on the development of an individual
There can be predictable and unpredictable events.
A predictable event is an occurrence that is expected to happen for example school or
parenthood. An individual knows that these events will happen someday in their life.
An unpredictable event is the opposite of a predictable event; therefore, it is an unexpected
occurrence such as illness or divorce. These events happen without the individual knowing.
Both of these events have influences on a person development.

 PREDICTABLE EVENTS:

I. Starting school/nursery – This is a very important event that happens during most
individuals life and it influences their development. An example could be a teenager
starting high school. Intellectually this event will help her gain new skills and expand
her knowledge through various classes and activities, however it can also put
pressure on her affecting her emotionally because the school work can make her
feel stressed, sad and anxious which can lead to depression in the long run if people
around her are not supportive especially the parents. Socially she will meet new
people and create various relationships that can help her improve her
communication skills and find her personality, but sometimes it can be a negative
experience socially as some individuals are bullied for various reasons when they
start school. Having an active social life at school with her friends will improve and
help her physically since she will hang out with them to the park or to do different
activities, which will help her find new hobbies such as dancing, sports, drawing or
reading. With the help of new hobbies, she will be able to use her muscles more and
be more active.

II. Parenthood – Some people choose to go through this life event others do not. A
mother will go through pregnancy to be able to achieve this life event, which makes
her go through different physical changes such as weight gain, expanded belly and
morning sickness. Emotionally throughout pregnancy, the mother will feel a mix of
emotions but when the baby is born she will feel very happy, excited but also
anxious since there will be a new addition to the family. This addition will lead to
more socialization since people would want to congratulate the family for the
addition. If the family consists of other children there might be conflicts refusing to
socialize and generally interact with the new infant because of jealousy.
This can make the parents feel stressed which can lead them to improve their
intellectuality by researching and asking help to understand how to cope with
children that feel jealousy towards a new addition in the family. They could use
websites, videos, books or advice from other people such as friends and family.
