Introduction – Formation of Thomas Cook Group and Business Model
Thomas Cook was founded, in its earliest iteration, in Leicester in 1841. After a period of
nationalisation from 1948-72, it was acquired by a consortium of banking and motoring
companies. Finally, it was acquired by the German business C&N Touristic AG, becoming
Thomas Cook AG. It merged with the UK-based MyTravel Group in 2007 and started trading
publicly on the London Stock Exchange.
