● What were the civilizations that were drawn into the Crusades?
○ The christian and muslim worlds were drawn into these
conflicts , inclued the byzantine empire, the seljuk turks, and
the mongols
● What were the origins of Crusading?
○ Ca b traced back to 11th century, when seljuk turks began to
expand their territory into the byzantine empire and threaten
christian pilgrims traveling to the holy land, in response pope
urban the 2nd called for a military campaign to jeurusalem for
christedom in 1096.feuled by religious fervor and a desire to
spreead christianity.
● How did a Christian doctrine of holy war develop?
○ Developed over time through a combination of theological,
political and military factors. Influenced by the idea of a just
war and the desie to spread christianity, the threat of muslim
expansion, and the political as well as economic motivations
developed the hoctrine of holy war
● What were the Crusader States?
○ A group of feudal sattes established by christian european
armies during the crusades. Included: jerusalem , antiochm
edessa, and tripoli, they were intended to serve as christian
territories in the holy land, eventually over ran and conquered
by muslim forces

● Why did central authority in the Islamic world weaken and
collapse? What were the consequences of this collapse?
○ Central authority collapsed in the islamic world due to several
reasons, political instability,economic decline, and external
pressures from invadinf forces. This lead to the
fragmentation of the islamic world, consequences included a
loss of unity,weakend military power, and a decline in cultural
and scientific adcvancements.
