INTRODUCTION Each single culture has their identical models of illness and health which may be understood within their unique worldviews. However some like that of the Chinese seems to be complex with deep roots on their history and philosophies especially on people and their nature. Despite increased modernization in biomedicine, many people around the world traditional medical beliefs remain a strong force in perception pertaining illness, treatment, and explanation a model that have continuously undergone transformations both in these communities and immigrants oversees. This work examines different medical beliefs in different communities among them the Chinese and Zulu in South Africa mainly focusing on their applications to psychotherapy, psychiatry, and counselling psychology.
