Skeletal System
The skeleton has different functions There are different types of bone in the skeleton

Long Bones - Are used for
Support / Shape - The skeleton is a rigid
larger Movements

shape is mainly due to our skeleton.
Short Bones - Are used for
smaller movements
Protection - Bones are very tough, they
protect vital organs like the brain, heart, Flat Bones - Protect vital
lungs. This allows you to perform well organs, their broad surface allows
without fear of serious injury muscle attachment


Movement - Muscles, attached to
bones by tendons. This movement is
essential for good performance in
sport.


Making Blood Cells - Some bones contain
bone marrow which make the components
of blood, red and white blood cells. Athletes
with more red blood cell cells perform better.


Mineral Storage - Bones store minerals like
calcium. These help with bone strength - so
you’re less likely to break a bone. There also
needed for muscle contraction, so the body
can move
