NUR 550 Topic 1 DQ 2
Using the GCU Library (notably the GCU Library: Nursing and Health Sciences Research Guide), find a database, journal, or other collection of resources that focuses on translational research. Select a population health problem or issue of interest from the available studies. What type of translational research is used for the study? Provide rationale as to why this
is the best type of translational research is best for the study, and explain why translational research is the most appropriate approach for this problem or population.
Tanslational research is often broken down into multiple categories, but most commonly broken down into only two: T1 which is basic to clinical and T2 which is clinical to population. This type of research is the process that investigates and translates results from nonclinical studies into clinical applications (Pomeroy & Sanfilippo, 2015) . It is also important to keep in mind that translational research is bidirectional and finding can and will change the course of the research and the pathway of continuums. Sepsis is one of the many core measures regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. It has become a costly illness in which many studies continue trying to find a root cause. One study, Current gaps in sepsis immunology: new opportunities for translational research, looked to understand the immunological factors that were predisposing to sepsis rather than the simplistic systematic inflammatory response. This study used a T1 translational research
in a bidirectional pathway. The information was gathered from current clinical treatment and trials and used to re-evaluate the findings for new study. The authors were able to establish gaps within studies and treatments in order to verify their theories (Rubio et al., 2019) .
