The basics
INTRODUCTION
Geometry is the branch of mathematics that studies shapes, extensions, and
transformations that objects (called geometric figures) can undergo in the plane and in
space.

The fundamental (or primitive) geometric entities are:
● THE POINT
○ A point has no dimensions; it only has a position. It is denoted by uppercase
block letters of the English alphabet.
● THE LINE
○ A line is made up of infinitely many points and has only one dimension:
length. It is denoted by lowercase letters of the English alphabet.
● THE PLANE
○ A plane has two dimensions: length and width. It is denoted by lowercase
letters of the Greek alphabet.
